1. Ink Not Curing & Intermittent UV Light Failure on Small Prints
Fault Phenomenon: When printing small cylindrical items or tiny patterns, the pattern looks clear but the ink remains sticky and cannot cure completely, resulting in poor curing quality.
Root Cause: This is a typical issue for cylinder UV printing. The UV lamp only activates in areas with printed content. For small patterns, most blank areas trigger no printing signal, causing the UV lamp to stay in sleep mode. Insufficient UV exposure time leads to incomplete ink curing and sticky prints.
Solution: Go to the drying mode settings in the printer software, enable and check theleft and right guide lines. After activation, the UV light will stay on during the entire carriage movement, avoiding sleep mode on blank areas and completely solving uncured ink problems for small patterns.
2. File Saved Successfully but Printer Does Not Print
Fault Phenomenon: Layout and task sending work normally, the software shows task completion and file saving, but the printer does not respond and does not output any prints.
Root Cause: In 99% of cases, the output port is set incorrectly. The system mistakenly selects the virtual printer <Microsoft Print to PDF>. All tasks are saved as PDF files instead of being sent to the physical printer.
Quick Fix: Enter the software port settings, deselect the PDF virtual port, choose the actual hardware port connected to your UV printer, then resend the print task.
3. White Ink Edge Bleeding & Irregular Edges
Fault Phenomenon: Color printing works fine, while white ink edges appear blurry, bleeding, and uneven, greatly affecting the finished product texture.
Root Cause: The original image contains a white background. The printing software cannot accurately identify the actual pattern edge and misjudges the white background as the printing area, resulting in white ink overflow and messy edges.
Optimized Solution: Remove the white background of the image in advance and save the file in PNG transparent background format. With transparent images, the software can accurately recognize pattern boundaries, delivering clean and sharp white ink edges without bleeding.
4. Blurry Prints & Offset / Disordered Printing Position
Fault Phenomenon: Printed patterns appear blurry and ghosted, the printing position drifts randomly, and alignment accuracy is unstable.
Root Cause: Raster strip recognition failure. Many users use improper cleaning solutions. Except for professional alcohol, all other liquids will corrode and damage the raster strip, causing positioning errors and chaotic print coordinates.
Standard Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Gently clean the raster strip with specialized alcohol to remove dust and stains, which fixes most minor positioning errors.
2. If the problem persists after cleaning, replace the complete raster strip set including the raster strip, connecting cable, and sensor to restore precise positioning.
5. Waste Ink Not Draining After Cleaning & Ink Suction Failure
Fault Phenomenon: No waste ink flows into the waste ink bottle after nozzle cleaning, resulting in poor ink circulation, missing ink, and broken printing lines.
Troubleshooting Checklist:
1. Check if the ink bottle has sufficient ink and no leakage.
2. Confirm the ink tube is fully immersed below the ink liquid level with correct installation.
3. Inspect the ink tube for folding, squeezing, damage or air leakage.
4. Check whether the suction nozzle is cracked or aging.
5. Long-term ink corrosion may damage the spring, causing the ink pad to fail to close completely and resulting in ineffective ink suction.
Final Solution: Manually extract ink from the corresponding ink cartridge to test ink circuit patency. If the ink circuit is blocked or suction remains abnormal, replace the ink pump.
Summary: Maintenance Prevails Over Repair for UV Printers
Most common failures of UV cylinder printers are not hardware quality issues, but caused by incorrect parameters, improper image formats, and non-standard daily maintenance. Most problems can be fixed within minutes without disassembly or random part replacement, effectively reducing machine downtime and maintenance costs.
